INFORMATION - Appliqué – How it works and what you need!!!

We often hear the question "How do you embroider appliqués?" To address this, we are sharing the newsletter below, full of valuable and clear explanations, to our customers.

Embroidered applications are a creative way to refine textiles in a very individual manner and give them a personal touch.

With the right materials, applications are easy and quick to make! We will show you how it's done and what you need.

Create the application:

A water-soluble, stable film serves as the embroidery base. No stabilizer, no fabric, just the film. In the GUNOLD range this is SOLVY FILM 80.

Here's how it works:

1. The special film is firmly hooped and thus serves as a base..

2. Now it is quick and easy to embroider patches that are fully stitched or applied with a fabric.

3. Due to the perforation during the embroidery process the patch can easily be separated from the foil.

4. Final finish: dampen the edges with a moist cloth - the result are nice and clean rims.

Pro Tip: For fully embroidered patches, the design must be digitized in such a way that all parts of the design are connected. Otherwise, the design would fall apart after washing out SOLVY FILM 80.

To save stitches, you can order laser-cut applications in the desired dimensions and shapes.

Pro Tip: If you use pre-cuts, appliqués becomes a piece of cake with KK FILM. The double-sided self-adhesive film temporarily fixes the pre-cut on SOLVY FILM 80. Alternatively, you can temporarily fix the application with KK 100 Adhesive Spray.

Fix the application:

Fix the application To apply the finished applications to the clothing, we recommend BSN or THERMOFIX.

1. BSN-H - Permanent heat-seal film for use with an iron

2. Thermofix - Adhesive fibres for permanent bonding

3. BSN-I - Permanent heat-seal film for heat press
